THE MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT AT GOLDEN VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL

 

All Golden Valley students are enrolled in Math courses for at least 3 years of high school. As Math teachers, we strive to have our students excel in the 8 Standards for Math practices:

  1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
  2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
  3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
  4. Model with mathematics.
  5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
  6. Attend to precision.
  7. Look for and make use of structure.
  8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

 

Our Mathematics department offers a wide range of courses from Foundations-2, Consumer Math, Algebra-1, Applied Algebra, Geometry, Applied Geometry, Advanced Algebra, Math Analysis, to Statistics. We also offer several AP, GATE, and Honors courses such as AP Statistics, AP Calculus, GATE Algebra-1, GATE Geometry, GATE Advanced Algebra, Honors Math Analysis, Pre-Calculus Dual enrollment with CSUB. Students also have the option of participating in our Math Club, Gaming club, or Honor Society.

 

 

Our Mathematics department is committed to meeting the needs of all learners and offers additional support courses for our English Language Learners as well as our students receiving Migrant services through 8th period classes for 9-12 Math and Applied Algebra. All students, regardless of grade or math level, are encouraged to take advantage of Math tutoring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school as well as test and quiz retakes every Thursday.
