Plans After High School: Emmaliyah is determined to further her education and attend California State University, Bakersfield with aspirations of becoming a registered nurse. She wants to be a traveling nurse and experience the various diverse cultures the world has to offer.

GPS Focus: PRIDE & SERVICE

What Makes Emmaliyah #BulldogSTRONG: As families gather around the table this Thanksgiving to consume turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie, and Grandma’s famous casserole, this national pastime and holiday also serves as a reminder for humanity to engage in selfless behavior such as gratitude, giving, and SERVICE. For Golden Valley High School Junior Class President, Emmaliyah Phleuy, she has taken to the SERVICE of others during this holiday season demonstrating her commitment to being #BulldogSTRONG. At McKee Middle School, Emmaliyah was involved in student leadership as she served as Class Representative during her 7th grade year and in 8th grade, she led the campus as student body president. In her first few years as a Bulldog, Emmaliyah was not involved in student leadership, but her passion to serve others and take part in student leadership never left her. At the end of her sophomore year, she ran for Junior Class President and was successfully elected by her peers. “I joined leadership at Golden Valley High School to represent my whole class and become a strong voice for them,” PRIDEFULLY states Emmaliyah, “My goal as a student leader is to get students more involved in activities. Our collective purpose is to create fun, yet safe, activities that show off our Bulldog PRIDE, even in the difficulties of distance learning.” In addition to her commitment to the SERVICE of her peers, Emmaliyah has challenged students to demonstrate the selfless behavior of giving during November through a school wide food drive. “We are collecting food to help families that are in need,” sympathetically states Emmalliyah, “More than anything I accomplish in high school, through events like this food drive, I hope to be remembered for helping others when they needed help the most.”

In addition to the PRIDE she has in the SERVICE of her peers and community, Emmaliyah has taken immense PRIDE in being a Golden Valley Cheerleader. For her part, Emmaliyah has been involved in cheerleading since she was in 7th grade, but it’s been her time as a cheerleader at Golden Valley that has been most memorable for her. “What I enjoy most about cheer at Golden Valley High School is that I am able to represent my school with endless spirit,” comments Emmaliyah. As a Junior this year, Emmaliyah was selected as Cheer Captain because of her leadership, enthusiasm, and infectious optimism. As Cheer Captain, Emmaliyah will have to lead her teammates through coordinated routines and dances at various athletic events, including under the Friday night lights of football games. “What I miss most about school is the interaction with my teammates and with the crowds during football games on Friday nights,” states Emmaliyah, “I also miss cheering our Bulldogs on to victory.” Like most athletes around Kern County and the state of California, Emmaliyah is hopeful that activities, athletics, and school return. “This year I hope we come back to school so I can lead our cheerleaders in demonstrating our PRIDE for GVHS,” optimistically states Emmaliyah, “I  want to use my position of Junior Class President and Cheer Captain as an example for those who may not have someone to look up to.” For her commitment to the SERVICE of her peers and community as Junior Class President and in the PRIDE she has in being Captain of the Golden Valley Cheer Program, Emmaliyah Phleuy is #BulldogSTRONG.
