What Makes Scarlett #BulldogSTRONG: School spirit is not something that is easily defined because school spirit consists of a vast number of things, especially on a high school campus. School spirit is the feeling many students get as they step into the stadium for their school’s homecoming football game. School spirit is proudly wearing school colors donned with the logo, mascot, team or club name, or the class the student represents. School spirit could be joining ASB to create memories for peers and classmates. School spirit involves students looking forward to going back to school after a holiday break. School spirit involves a strong emotional connection with the school. For the students at Golden Valley High School, part of being #BulldogSTRONG and showing school spirit is by showing PRIDE on campus by having genuine joy in being a Bulldog. For Senior Scarlett Lozano, she has demonstrated her PRIDE in being a Bulldog at GVHS, showing her endless school spirit from her position as a student leader in ASB as well as a cheerleader for the Bulldogs. Scarlett has been active in student leadership dating back to her years in elementary school at Veeh Elementary in Tustin, California where she was the 5th grade class vice president. At GVHS, Scarlett has become an instrumental member of student leadership. As a junior, she held the position of Cheer Representative where she was able to offer insight as one who hyped up the crowd on Friday nights at football games and what students were excited about on campus during the school day. This year, as a senior, Scarlett was elected to serve as Rally Chairperson and is excited to share her energy with her fellow students. “I love my position because I am naturally an energetic person,” enthusiastically states Scarlett, “I love hyping up students, especially during lunch time activities and contests.” Although Covid-19 has limited Scarlett’s ability to do her job to the fullest, such as rallies in the gym, Scarlett is optimistic, hoping to create lasting memories for the students at GVHS. “My goal as a student leader at Golden Valley is to have students make their high school year memorable,” she says passionately, “I really believe that these are the years that most people reflect back on. I want students to enjoy their high school experience even though they were hit hard with Covid-19.” Spring 2022 will be busy for Scarlett and the rest of the student leaders in ASB as they have many activities planned: winter dance in February, Prom, movie nights on the Football Field, Powder Puff Football games, and much more. “What students should know about ASB is that we are putting in a lot of hard work to make as many memories as possible,” Scarllet humbly states.

At the start of the year, Scarlett Lozano and other ASB Student Leaders spoke about the importance of the #BulldogSTRONG Behavior Matrix

Beyond the positive energy that she possesses as a student leader, Scarlett has been the epitome of school spirit as a Bulldog Cheerleader. For most of her life, cheer has been essential for Scarlett as she has been cheering for 9 years in different programs from Young Champions to competitively at Ollivier MIddle School and now for four years as a Bulldog Cheerleader. Simply, Scarlett loves cheering in front of the fans and student body at GVHS. “I love performing at rallies,” Scarlett indicates, “I really enjoy dancing on the blue mat and hitting the stunts. I really enjoy creating that bond with my teammates and performing with them.” Scarlett encourages her fellow students to join cheerleading because of the amazing memories that are created, especially cheering under the Friday Night lights of a football game. “My most memorable moment in cheer would have to be Senior Night,” humbly comments Scarlett, “Cheering for the last time on our football field was bittersweet because it was then that I realized that I would be cheering in Bulldog Stadium for the last time. I simply love being a Bulldog and am not afraid to show it.” For the endless energy, school spirit, and authentic PRIDE she has in being a Bulldog from her position as Rally Chairperson in ASB and as a cheerleader, Scarlett Lozano is #BulldogSTRONG.
