What Makes Ines #BulldogSTRONG: A student leader with a GROWTH mindset sees opportunities to make their campus the best it can possibly be. Student leaders don’t shy away from obstacles, instead, they view every experience as an opportunity to learn, show GROWTH, and overcome those obstacles. For Golden Valley High School Senior, Ines Ortiz, a positive GROWTH mindset has allowed her to flourish as part of ASB Student Leadership and in many other areas on campus. In 4th grade, Ines was challenged by her teacher to join leadership in order to step out of her comfort zone and leave a lasting impact on her school. “Coming from someone who is a little bit more on the shyer side, I was a little nervous to get involved,” admits Ines, “But I took the chance and I am glad that I did.” Ines took her teacher’s advice to heart as evident in her leadership experience at McKee Middle School where she served as a class representative in 6th and 7th grade before being elected to serve as the school’s Vice President on student council. As an incoming freshman at GVHS, Ines knew that she wanted to be part of student leadership because of the positive impact that she could make in SERVICE of her peers. “I joined leadership at GVHS because it is something I truly enjoy doing and is something that I am highly passionate about,” humbly states Ines, “No matter what the position is in which I have served, I am just grateful to have the opportunity to be able to share my ideas, opinions, and help to make our school environment the best it can be for everyone.” As a Bulldog, Ines was a member at large her freshman year, Junior Class President, and now serves as the Parliamentarian and member of the Student Board Advisory Council. From her current position, Ines hopes to improve the school’s overall environment with creative and innovative ideas that students can connect with and grow from. “When I graduate from GVHS, I want to be remembered as the kind of leader who sparked positive change and growth.”

As a student leader on the campus of GVHS, Ines Ortiz is committed to SERVING her peers by creating a positive experience for all students.

Beyond her contributions to ASB Student Leadership, Ines is deeply involved in numerous activities and athletics on the campus of Golden Valley High School. As a four year cheerleader for the GVHS Cheer program, Ines has enjoyed her time energizing the crowd and the positive culture that has been created. “What I like most about cheer at GVHS is the safe and positive environment our coach has created,” graciously comments Ines, “The bonds and friendships I have created with people on our team is something I wouldn't be able to get anywhere else, along with the good memories I had the opportunity to create each year.” In addition to the pep and energy that she brings to numerous athletic events, Ines has been involved in a myriad of clubs and organizations on campus such as the community service based Interact Club, Bruiser’s Block, and as a Senior, she has joined the illustrious We The People team, an academic competition centered on a student’s understanding of the Constitution. Ines is on the Student Advisory Board to the Kern High School District Superintendent, representing GVHS to the finest degree. Furthermore, Ines is part of the #BulldogSTRONG Tier I Team, a group of staff, students, administrators, and parents committed to analyzing current trends on campus in order to build a positive culture while emphasizing the importance of GROWTH, PRIDE, and SERVICE. With all of her success, participation, and desire to make GVHS a special place for all students, Ines has maintained her humility and kindness towards others. “Kindness has to be one of the biggest acts of service one can do, because in the end, things like that really do matter in people’s lives,” humbly states Ines, “From helping others, to putting in exceptional effort into the simplest of tasks, as long we as students at GVHS treat others with kindness, we can create a positive, #BulldogSTRONG environment for all students to be happy.” For her commitment to serving the students at Golden Valley High School through various leadership roles on campus and in the community, and in the genuine kindness and humility that she possesses, Ines Ortiz is #BulldogSTRONG.

As a four year cheerleader for the GVHS Bulldogs, Ines Ortiz has a lot of PRIDE in simply being a Bulldog.

What #BulldogSTRONG Means to Ines: "#BulldogSTRONG to me is all about the effort you put into becoming your best possible self, whether it comes to grades, sports, or clubs. You don’t have to be the absolute best in what you do, but the effort and work you put into the things you do truly matters. Finding what you are passionate about, and pursuing it with hardwork and determination, all while never forgetting to stay kind and respectful is all a part of being #BulldogSTRONG.”

What Teachers and Staff Think of Ines:

"Inez Ortiz exemplifies what it means to be #BulldogSTRONG! As a student in AP English Language and Composition last year, Inez displayed growth as a reader and writer. Her positive attitude, kindness, and thoughtful contributions to discussions enriched the experience of the entire class. These qualities also serve her well as an active member of the Golden Valley student body. Inez is eager to serve Golden Valley by using her voice and sharing her ideas. She is a proud Bulldog through and through, and I am excited to see what she accomplishes this year and beyond!” Karen Bastain, AP English Language and Composition Teacher, Golden Valley High School

“What a great way to start off this school year! Ines is a great example of Growth, Pride, and Service.  Ines has always been an inspiration in my class.  Students looked up to her and continue to because of her personality, perseverance, self-motivation, and school spirit.  Ines has shown academic and leadership skills that have helped her succeed in her classes but also motivate others to challenge themselves to learn while having a great attitude.  Ines’s positive vibes and smile are very much appreciated anywhere she is. I am very proud of her and her accomplishments and know there are many more to come. ” Sra. Eva Perez, AP Spanish Teacher, Golden Valley High School
