Social Studies: GVHS students are required to complete three years of History Social-Science coursework to meet the College Preparation A-G Requirements.
As Sophomores, students study one year of World History in General, College Preparatory or G.A.T.E. level classes.
In the Junior year, students complete one year of U.S. History and have the option of enrolling in Advanced Placement U.S. History to prepare for the College Board AP U.S. History Exam.
As Seniors, graduating students complete one semester of U.S. Government and one semester of Economics. Students may apply to take Honors Government with a teacher recommendation and in this class the focus is on the U.S. Constitution and related Federal laws as students prepare for the “We the People” Competition.
All students are expected to maintain grades of “C” or higher in each class and our department regularly offers tutoring after-school as well as make-up opportunities after school and in the summer when funding is available.
