THRIVE Guides 2021-2022

1"THRIVE is an impactful group for the students on our campus. With THRIVE we look at a whole student approach. It is not just about academics and being part of a club, it is also a place where students can get help in areas of need by their peers. We focus on mental health topics that many of our teens on campus face while doing activities that combat issues such as anxiety, depression, lack of motivation, and more. THRIVE is a group of students helping students. It is a place where anyone and everyone can feel like they belong. No matter how big or small a students’ need is, if you’re just looking for community, if you’re just needing homework help, to needing someone to vent or talk to about the stress of every day life and being a teen, THRIVE is here to help." Melissa Waldrop, English Teacher and THRIVE Guide, GVHS

GV students can be emotionally, socially, academically suffering, and as a result THRIVE can be utilized as a resource. It allows them to connect with other students, make friends, receive academic support and be part of something bigger than themselves. At the end of they day it is about students helping students." "Thrive meetings are a warm and safe environment for the students to congregate. Through well thought out themed type meetings, the students realize that they have more in common than not. They feel free to express their feelings and circumstances with each other without fear of criticism. I have only been involved with the group for a short time, but I am amazed at how the student leaders are so welcoming to all the new students who attend the meetings and how they include everyone into their activities." Janine Lynch, School Counselor and THRIVE Guide, GVHS

"Thrive is important for students at GV because this group lets students know that they do not have to deal with the challenges they are facing alone. Whether these challenges are academic or social-emotional the thrive leaders will be there for them and willing to hear them out. This crucial for students who feel like they do not have anyone to talk to here on campus." Fernando Ruiz, World History Teacher and THRIVE Guide, GVHS
